Health and Safety Tips for Parents

We take everyone's safety very seriously at Pentland. Below are a few important measures that we ask everybody to cooperate with, in order to keep Pentland a safe place for all.

Beginning and End of the School Day

  • The children in our school are still all very young. It is essential that they are brought to school and collected by an adult; it is the school's policy that noone under the age of 16 will be permitted to collect a child from school.
  • We keep a list of adults who have permission to collect children from school. If for any reason, any other adult will be collecting your child, please notify the school office in advance of hometime. If no such message is recieved, your child will be kept in school whilst the school office contacts parents for confirmation. We thank you for your cooperation with this.
  • If a child arrives in school later than 8.50 am, parents should bring their child into the school office and a staff member will accompany them to class.
  • Please can we ask to stand back from the school entrance points and only come forward for their child once called.
  • If parents wish to speak to school staff at the beginning or end of the day, we would kindly ask that they stand back and wait until all children are safely collected by an adult. This will allow teachers to give their full attention to ensuring that children are collected by a known adult.

Mobile Phones:

Please can we remind parents that the use of mobile phones is prohibited in and around the school building, not just to make calls but to check and send messages too. This is to protect against the possibility of images being taken of children in and around the building, without former consent.Staff are asked to remind any parent or visitor to the school of this safeguarding rule, should they see anyone using a mobile phone.

Car Park:

The school has a barrier system in place in order to restrict the number of vehicles that move around the site, for the safety of all children. Barrier passes are limited to members of staff, governors and any child or parents who hold a blue disability badge or has a specified need within their EHC plan. If you feel that you or your child meets this crtiteria, please make an appointment to speak to Miss F Farooq.  Those parents bringing children to Breakfast Club may enter the car park before 8.30am, but must be off site by then.

We request that any permitted vehicle entering the carpark drives at a maximum speed of 5 MPH.

We fully understand and sympathise that parking around the school is limited. The majority of schools, unfortunately, suffer the same. We can only reiterate that if you live within walking distance, it would be most helpful if you could walk to school with your children. It is giving them a healthy start to the day too!

Seatbelts:

It has been brought to our attention that a number of children are travelling in cars without using a seatbelt. Please ensure that all passengers in a car are wearing them. They are far too precious to risk being harmed in an accident.

Thank you for your co-operation and joint work with the school. We truly value our strong relationships and partnerships with you as parents and our sole aim is to ensure that we provide both the highest quality and safest teaching and learning environment for all our children.
