Home Learning Activities for Today
Dear Anthony Browne Class,
We hope you’re staying warm on this icy day! Although it’s too slippery to play outside, here are some fun activities you can do at home.
Remember: Work in your homework book and you will find your purplemash login details at the front of your homework books.
Literacy: Diary Entry – My Snowy Day Yesterday
- Write a diary entry about your snowy day yesterday. Start with how you felt when you woke up and saw the snow.
- Use descriptive words (adjectives) to talk about the snow and how it felt. For example: fluffy, sparkling, cold, soft, crunchy.
- Challenge: Include time words like first, then, after that, later, and finally to make your diary entry flow.
Here’s a sentence starter to help you:
“Yesterday, I woke up and saw snow everywhere! The snow looked...”
If you want, you can draw a picture of yourself enjoying the snow to go with your diary entry.
Maths: Purple Mash Activity
In Maths we are learning about place value with a focus on numbers within 20
Log in to Purple Mash and complete the Year 1 maths activity set for you - Number quiz with numbers to 20.
It’s all about practicing your skills—don’t forget to try your best!
RE: Discuss a Special Book
- Think about a book that is special to you. It could be a storybook, a sketchbook or note book, a comic, or even a family photo album!
- Talk to someone at home about why it’s special. Is it because someone gave it to you? Or maybe it reminds you of something important?
- Challenge: Draw your special book and write 2–3 sentences about your special book.
Example: “My special book is... because... I like it because...”
Science: Weather Report
In science we have been learning all about weather symbols and what the weather is like in different seasons.
Log onto purple mash and look in the 2Dos.
Challenge: to make a weather report for this week. Look on BBC weather to help you.
Optional Extra Activities:
- Create a winter-themed drawing or craft.
- Write a winter poem using words to describe ice and snow.
- Draw a picture on purple mash to show what you have been doing this week. Write a sentence to describe your picture (See 2Dos)
- Read a book and share your favorite part with someone at home.
We can’t wait to hear all about your snow day when we’re back in school! Stay safe on this icy day!
