Schools Sport Premium Funding
What is Sports Premium Funding?
Sports Premium funding is a government initiative in the United Kingdom aimed at improving the quality of physical education (PE) and sports provision in primary schools. The funding is designed to help schools enhance the overall experience of physical education for students and promote healthy and active lifestyles. It's intended to have a lasting impact on physical education and sports activities within schools.
How is it used?
At Pentland Infant and Nursery School, we recognise the profound importance of physical education (PE) on a child's development. We believe that effective teaching and providing ample opportunities for PE can have a lifelong impact on our young learners. Engaging in physical activities not only promotes physical health but also nurtures crucial life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
The benefits of PE and competitive sports extend far beyond the classroom, instilling a sense of confidence and a love for an active lifestyle. Through activities like team sports, students learn to work together and strive for self-improvement. These experiences at a young age can foster a lifelong passion for fitness, well-being, and a positive approach to challenges, all of which are essential for our students' future success and happiness.
With this in mind, we carfeully plan how we use our allocated Sports Premium Funding each year to ensure that we are having a sustainable impact on the opportunity for and quality of physical education not only whilst our children are with us here at Pentland but also into their future. In order make decisions on we spend the funding, we assess whether the intended expenditure contributes towards one or more of the following key indicators:
- increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport
- increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport
- raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement
- offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils
- increase participation in competitive sport
How much Sports Premium does the school receive?
The amount of Sports Premium funding a school receives can vary from year to year and is based on the number of pupils in the school. Each school is allocated a sum of annual funding, with additional per-pupil funding on top of that.
As we are a school with more than 17 eligible pupils, this academic year we will receive a sum of £16,000 plus an additional £10 per eligible pupil.
By no later than the 31st July each year, we will publish our annual review of Sports Premium spending on this website page, including an analysis of the impact this has had. See the links at the bottom of this page to see the review of spending for previous academic years.
